Mr. Lopez's Biology Classroom
I teach one period of Yearbook, three of Biology, and coach Tennis and Soccer throughout the year. It has been a really great experience having a diverse schedule. It gives me the opportunity to explore different methods of teaching and coaching. My classroom is located in the new area of campus which was completed in 2009. The room is spacious and best of all I have internet connection for a multiple number of computers. A downside is that it is not your typical room where you would teach a Biology class, I do not have lab tables, sinks, or any lab equipment. If I need to do major labs I swap rooms with another teacher who does have a lab room. Teaching Yearbook has been a major perk because it gives me the chance to to use the computers for my Biology classes as well. I hope you enjoy the pictures, they depict different aspects of the life of my classroom. Enjoy!

Within The Classroom
I have my desks set up in pairs. Sometimes students do not like to be so close to each other but I truly feel it gives them a sense of partnership. Each pair remains together for about two months and then they will be partnered with someone else. Each pair works on most activities, labs, and major projects together. They depend on each other for support and feedback. For example, if one is absent it is the responsibility of the other student to help him or her get caught up with what they missed while absent. I also think this helps them improve their communication skills and best of all it helps me get other things done as well. I have about twenty seven students per classroom. It has been a very manageable number which allows me pay closer attention to the needs of all my students. Take a look below to see all the amazing and wonderful things that are happening in my classroom.
The Future
The future is now! In my classroom, I have introduced my students to various Web 2.0 tools and applications. They have already put them into practice. I am grateful to have a good number of computers available which keeps me from fighting to reserve the computer lab. Technology is not prevalent at my school, but I putting the effort to provide for my students as best as I can. My goal is to help them achieve 21st century skills and be ready for an ever-changing future.
