Samuel Lopez's Annotated Transcript
Following are the various courses I took throughout the Master in Arts In Educational Technology Program at Michigan State University. You will find information of when each class was taken , course number and title, the instructor's name, and a short overview. Each course instilled a great amount of knowledge on how to use technology to improve pedagogy and provide each student a positive learning environment.
Fall 2013
CEP 807: Capstone Ed Technology
Instructors: Matthew Koehler, Joshua Rosenberg, Andrea Zellner, and Spencer Greenhalgh Grade 4.0 This is the last course in the MAET Program, but certainly the most fulfilling. We get to create a professional online portfolio which showcases all of our hard work from the last few months. To create this portfolio I decided to use Weebly. We also include personal information, a resume or curriculum vitae, our classroom environment, and an annotated transcript of the all the courses we have taken. We pay close attention to design, accessibility, and navigation. |
CEP 813: Electronic Portfolios
Instructor: Patrick Dickson Grade 4.0 In this course we are presented with ideas on how to use and benefit from online portfolios in our classrooms. They are a great way for teachers to showcase class work. I have an idea for my students to use Weebly to create a portfolio as an end of the year project where they can show what they have learned throughout the year. An assignment in this course includes to create a professional online portfolio which depicts our hard labors throughout the MAET Program and our lives. |
Summer 2013
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Instructors: Anne Heintz, Sandra Sawaya, and Laura Wolf Grade 4.0 This course helped us create our first online course using a Course Management System. I ended up using Haiku Learning. It gave us an insight in designing an online course and also to create something that is easily accessible by our students. I also used the NEA Guide to Online High School Courses rubric. A big part of the assignment was also to concentrate on making sure we were choosing the right types of assessment that are more suitable for online teaching. A Developer's Notebook was maintained in Google Docs which documents the process of setting up the online course. |
CEP 822: Approaches to Ed Research
Instructors: David Wong and Tatyana Li Grade 4.0 Some of the key features of this class included learning how to analyze data using Microsoft Excel. I have never taken a statistics class and I was very impressed how well they introduced it. It was fun playing around with the different commands in Excel. We also learn how to do research in an educational setting. We worked on a Research Literature Review which included information from 15 plus sources. My literature review focused on finding the positive or negative effects of transgenic organisms. |
Spring 2013
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Luke Rapa and Joshua Rosenberg Grade 4.0 This course helped us reflect on ethical issues surrounding technology and leadership at our schools. We learned to become better "leaders" in our classrooms and our school sites. We understood that having technology is the first step in making sure we learn to use to improve learning. In the Policy Brief assignment we learned how the child, the home, the school, the curriculum, the teacher, and the approaches of teaching, and can have an effect on student achievement. The Final Project consisted in finding a problem in our school and propose a solution to solve it. |
CEP 817: Learning Technology Through Design
Instructors: Punya Mishra, J. Park, and L. Terry Grade 4.0 From the first assignment "55 fiction" to the "Big Kahuna Project", this course focused on using every aspect of design to create some aesthetically pleasing, whether it is a lesson, a website, or even a writing assignment. For the Big Kahuna Project we created a website where student can find specific information to support their learning. I created a website which provided, tutorials, videos, graphics which students can use during our Physiology unit. |
Fall 2012
CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructor: Dr. Danah Henriksen Grade 4.0 In this course we aimed to understand how much are students actually understanding in our classrooms. To study this we interviewed a few students on a subject that typically produces misconceptions. I investigated the subject of Evolution and wanted too see if students who have taken the class previously were able to explain the concept of Survival of the Fittest and to showcase our findings we prepared an audio production. We also designed a lesson based on the TPACK framwork and created a digital story. |
CEP 812: Applying Ed Technology to Issues of Practice
Instructor: Carolyn MacCarthy Grade 4.0 In this course we first prepared a Personal Learning Plan (PLP). This assignment gave us idea as to how far we have come since the first day we started the program. We also got a chance to put some of the applications we learned about to work in our classrooms. We recorded the initial introduction, implementation, and results of the assignment in our Wicked Problem Project made in Microsoft PowerPoint. There was also a Group Leadership Project where we investigated the positive benefits of different Google products. |
Summer 2012
CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Amy Leigh Pietrowski Grade 4.0 This course was the perfect start to the master's program. We were introduced to a myriad of applications and tools that are available online for free. These applications if used properly can be beneficial to a student's learning process. It also introduced us to the concept of the TPACK (Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge) framework. We used Google Docs to create a Personal Growth Plan (PGP) and we put together our first Personal Learning Network. |
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
Instructor: Dr. Sandra Plair Grade 4.0 The focus of this course was to construct a StAIR (Stand Alone Instructional Resource) Project using Microsoft PowerPoint. The subject for my project was Biochemistry. We also used the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Guidelines to complete a Goal-Oriented Instructional Design Plan. Finally, we learned and contributed to MERLOT. CEP 811 provided a better understanding on how to adapt technology to reach all types of learners. |
